Arthritis Researchers Give Hot Tub 2 Thumbs Up

Developed in close collaboration with patients and scientists, Coast’s Wellness Spa™
Is the first to receive the endorsement of the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada.

Thanks to Coast Spas, arthritis sufferers can now enjoy the benefits of hydrotherapy in ease and comfort. Coast’s just-introduced Wellness Spa™ is the result of more than a year of close collaboration with the scientists and Consumer Advisory Board of a major research body, the Arthritis Research Centre (ARC) of Canada.

The most comprehensive therapeutic hot tub ever made, the Wellness Spa™ differs from ordinary spas in many ways, including extra water depth, handrails for security and easy movement, interior steps with a non-skid surface, powerful hydrotherapy jets and built-in exercise devices – making Coast the only spa manufacturer to receive ARC’s recommendation.

“We have always believed hot tubs have a beneficial role in the treatment of arthritis,” says Coast CEO Don Elkington. “Having ARC scientists and Consumer Advisory Board members on our design team showed us the needs and wants of people living with arthritis.”

While traditional hot tub seating may be uncomfortable for the mobility-restricted, the Wellness Spa’s body-locating seats and large footwell accommodate a wide range of sizes and shapes. Those who’ve had trouble entering or exiting hot tubs without assistance will appreciate the non-skid steps, external hand rail and interior balance ring. Standard hot tub dials may be hard to manipulate with sore hands, so the Wellness Spa uses levers instead.

The seats’ ergonomic design allows exact placement of hydrotherapy jets. Extra footwell jets are also precisely located for maximum therapeutic benefit. Exercise bands and oars included with the Wellness Spa attach easily with clips and offer users several levels of resistance. A corner rowing seat is designed to improve user’s strength, aerobic conditioning and range of motion.

“Thanks to the input of ARC scientists and the Consumer Advisory Board members, we’ve built a hot tub that is therapeutic to arthritis sufferers as well as to people afflicted with numerous other debilitating handicaps,” says Elkington. “Look for many of these innovations to find their way into the rest of the hot tub models in the future.”
