ARC RECOMMENDS COAST SPA
Arthritis Research Center Recommends Coast Spa
Langley, BC. (January 2, 2004) – the leading innovator in portable home hot tubs, today announced the introduction of their new Wellness Spa. Designed in concert with the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada (ARC) and utilizing a contingent of ARC scientists and Arthritis Consumer Advisory Board members as consultants and human study models on the project. Coast Spas has developed the most comprehensive spa available on the market today and is the only spa manufacturer in the world to receive a recommendation from the Arthritis Research Center.
“Coast Spas’ team went out of their way to meet our recommendations,” said Marja Kauppi, arthritis sufferer and project advisor, “It was a truly cooperative partnership… Coast took an attitude of wanting to help people with mobility issues… our ideas and approval were important to them”.
Don Elkington, CEO, Coast Spas, has been associated with ARC since 2000; first as a corporate sponsor and then as a Director. “We have always believed that hot tubs had a beneficial role in the treatment of arthritis,” said Elkington, “Through ARC we gained the opportunity to find out the true needs and wants of actual arthritis sufferers, and to have them become very involved in the design of the Wellness Spa.”
Coast Spas will donate $100 from the sale of each Wellness Spa to help advance ARC’s mission to provide continued research in the field of arthritis and joint disease.
“The people at Coast Spas can be proud of the Wellness Spa for meeting the needs of people with arthritis and other musculoskeletal diseases” stated Rob Appleton, Executive Director of ARC, “there is something for everyone in this spa, regardless of their level of mobility, and although this spa was developed with a target population in mind, the rest of the population benefits from this unique design.”
Marja Kauppi says it best “because it is functional, the Wellness Spa stands out as a product to be used, not just a pretty plaything… it is a revolutionary approach to the home therapy, self-management philosophy.”
“By having these knowledgeable advisors on our design team we learned a tremendous amount about meeting their therapy and mobility needs,” said Coast Spas Elkington, “For instance, traditional hot tub seating is not very comfortable for mobility restricted people; standard hot tub controls are not easy to manipulate with sore hands; and many arthritic people could not even get in or out of a typical hot tub without much assistance.” “Coast Spas’ team used all of this information to build a hot tub that is very user friendly and therapeutic to people with arthritis and people afflicted with a number of other limitations” according to Elkington “Look for many of these innovations to find their way into the rest of our hot tub models in the future.”
